Surface finishing is often a very relevant item. Specifically, the components manufactured through additive technologies have a roughness that is too high for determined applications. Together with machining, CI-ESSE uses the following techniques:
UltraFine™ is a new quality improvement process, patented by CI-ESSE in collaboration with Imperial College (London), which deals with the three main existing problems with parts made by additive manufacturing: the irregular surface morphology, the oxygen contamination of the surface and the powder particles defects. Thanks to the new treatment UltraFine™, the surface becomes smooth and stress-free, all internal pores and contamination defects are eliminated and other improvements can be achieved. The process is applicable to most ALM metals and alloys.
